Los Lobos ( Spanish for The Wolves ) is an American rock band formed in 1973 in Los Angeles by David Hidalgo, Louie Pérez, Conrad Lozano and Cesar Rosas as Los Lobos Del Este De Los Ángeles .
Career
In 1976 the debut album Sí Se Puede! on the market. In the following years, Los Lobos , as they called themselves, put their acoustic instruments aside and combined elements of rock , pop and latino music with the help of electric guitars . In 1978 the album Just Another Band from East LA was released
The 1983 album … and a Time to Dance was produced by T-Bone Burnett and Steve Berlin, who joined the band in 1984. The album featured a mixture of swing , blues and folk .
With the album How Will the Wolf Survive? (1985) and the title track, Los Lobos entered the charts for the first time. The record also received critical acclaim. In early 1987, By the Light of the Moon was released , which was hailed as their best album to date. On the album Los Lobos combined Latin American instruments with traditional rock 'n' roll .
In 1987, La Bamba was her biggest single hit. It reached number 1 on the charts in both the United States and Great Britain . In Switzerland the song was right at the top of the charts, in Austria on 3, in Germany on 7. The song appeared on the soundtrack of the film La Bamba , which tells about the life of Ritchie Valens . They also hit the international charts again with another Valens cover from the film, Come On Let's Go . On the 88 album La Pistola y el Corazon you could hear many North American and Mexican folk songs. In 1989 Los Lobos took a break.
Levon Helm and John Hiatt contributed to the album The Neighborhood . 1991 Los Lobos were represented with a song (Bertha) on the Grateful Dead tribute album Deadicated . In 1992 Kiko was released, which again offered strong Latin rock and is considered one of the best albums of the band. In the 1990s they appeared on various soundtracks and tribute albums for Richard Thompson and Buddy Holly . David Hidalgo and Louie Perez released songs under the names Latin Playboys and Hounddog . In 1995 Los Lobos recorded the children's concept album Papa's Dream with Lalo Guerrero . In 1996 Collossal Head came on the market, which, according to critics, sounded like a cheap ZZ-Top imitation.
Then the albums This Time (1999), El cancionero mas y mas (four CDs; 2000), Good Morning Aztlán (2002), The Ride (2004) and the DVD Live at the Fillmore (2004) were released.
In 2011 they contributed three songs to the soundtrack of the animated film Rango . In June 2013 Los Lobos went on tour in Germany as a support act with Neil Young . In the summer of 2016, they were on tour in North America with the North Mississippi Allstars and the Tedeschi Trucks Band .
