David Kent Hidalgo (* 6. October 1954 in Los Angeles , California ) is a rock - singer and multi-instrumentalist , who primarily as a member of Los Lobos is famous nationally. In 1973 Hidalgo was one of the founding members of Los Lobos, for whom he wrote most of the songs together with Louie Pérez . Otherwise he has also appeared as a guest musician on albums by other artists, including Dave Alvin , Buckwheat Zydeco , Paul Burlison , T-Bone Burnett , Peter Case , Toni Childs , Marc Cohn , Ry Cooder , Elvis Costello , Crowded House , The Fabulous Thunderbirds , John Lee Hooker , Rickie Lee Jones , Leo Kottke , Roy Orbison , Dolly Parton , Pierce Pettis , Bonnie Raitt , Paul Simon , Taj Mahal , Suzanne Vega , Bob Dylan and Tom Waits .

In 1987, he contributed the song Will the Wolf Survive to the film drama Promised Land . For Dennis Hopper's 1988 film drama Colors starring Sean Penn and Robert Duvall , he wrote the song One Time, One Night . The songs Manifold De Amour , Forever Night Shade Mary and Chinese Surprize for the 1995 action film Desperado with Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek were also written by Hidalgo. For the road movie The Mexican with Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts from 2001 he wrote the melancholy song La pistola y el corazón . For the comedy Meet the Fockers was created in 2004 the song guerrilla . Flor de huevo (Son locos) is the name of the song he contributed to the 2013 animated film Ich - Despicable Me 2 .

In 1998, Hidalgo recorded the folk album Kambara Music in Native Tongues with Martin Simpson , Viji Krishnan and Puvalur Srinivasan and together with his Los Lobos colleague César Rosas and five other musicians founded the Mexican folk band Los Super Seven , with which he recorded two albums.

David Hidalgo played guitar at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival , an honor only given to the most talented musicians. He was accompanied by Booker T. & the MG's .
