action

A secret laboratory in the Arctic is stolen by a mysterious flying machine with a giant magnet. The secret organization "Anti-Criminal League" (AVL) wants to prevent the serum PX-41, which was stolen in the laboratory and which turns every form of life into aggressive purple eating machines, from falling into the wrong hands.

The former super villain Gru lives a quiet life in his villa with his three adoptive daughters Margo, Edith and Agnes as well as with numerous minions, his little, yellow helpers. His life suddenly takes a turn when the lively agent Lucy Wilde kidnaps him and brings him to the AVL headquarters. There the AVL director Silas Ramspopo asks him to help her find the thief of the PX-41 serum.

Gru rejects the AVL proposal as he wants to concentrate more on his adoptive daughters and his new business, the production of jam. Lucy gives him her business card anyway, in case he changes his mind. Gru quickly notices that the jams produced are inedible. In addition, his longtime helper, Dr. Nefario after getting a better job offer. Discouraged, Gru contacts Lucy and agrees to work for AVL.

The AVL could in the meantime traces of PX-41 serum in a mall ( shopping mall , shortly Mall ) discover. With Lucy's help, Gru begins his research in the mall, assuming a cover identity as a co-owner of a cupcake shop. The AVL has drawn up a list of suspects who are to be spied on. Gru soon thinks that the owner of a Mexican restaurant, Eduardo, is the thief, as he looks very much like the former villain El Macho. However, this is said to have been dead for 20 years. Lucy and Gru break into Eduardo's restaurant, where they are attacked by his strong domestic chicken, trained to be a guardian. However, they find no suspicious clues and have to flee from Eduardo when he returns to the store.

Meanwhile, Margo falls in love with Eduardo's son Antonio, which Gru doesn't like at all. The family receives an invitation to Eduardo's party on the Mexican holiday " Cinco de Mayo ". Lucy and Gru continue spying and discover traces of the PX-41 serum at the wig dealer Floyd Adlerson. Gru receives a wig from Floyd. Out of fatherly concern for Margo, Gru stiffened on Eduardo as the villain and offended Silas and Lucy.

Gru's neighbor Jillian is constantly trying to pair him up, this time with her annoying friend Shannon. Gru can't talk himself out of it. At the rendezvous, Shannon discovers that Gru is wearing a wig that Floyd Adlerson gave him. Shannon is about to expose him when Lucy steps in and puts her to sleep with an anesthetic dart. Gru and Lucy bring Shannon home, and Lucy kisses Gru on the cheek, whereupon Gru is in an extremely good mood (" Happy ") the next morning .

The next day, the AVL arrests the wig dealer Floyd, whom they believe to be the thief of the serum. The AVL boss tells Gru that the case is closed and that Lucy will be transferred to Australia for her next case. Gru is too cowardly to confess his feelings to her. He admits to Agnes that he has feelings for Lucy, but does not dare to call her.

The family goes to Eduardo's party, where Gru wants to keep Margo from spending time with Antonio. Gru secretly follows Eduardo into a secret hiding place and discovers there that Eduardo is indeed El Macho and that Dr. Nefario works for him. The two have kidnapped numerous of Grus Minions and turned them into vicious purple monsters with the help of the PX-41 Serum.

Eduardo offers Gru a collaboration, but the latter refuses and flees the property with the girls. Lucy is already on the flight to Australia when she realizes she is in love with Gru and jumps off the plane. In the air she turns her handbag into a hang glider . When she arrives at Eduardo's party, the chicken recognizes her and steals her ID, whereby Eduardo learns her identity as an AVL agent and takes her prisoner; Dr. Nefario secretly informs Gru about it. He sets off with two of the remaining Minions to save Lucy.

After a change of heart, Dr. Nefario an antidote for the PX-41 serum with the jam produced by Gru and the Minions and sets off with it and with the girls to help Gru. With the antidote, Gru can transform his helpers back and finally defeat El Macho. When he wants to free Lucy, who was previously strapped onto a rocket by El Macho, El Macho's chicken pushes the button and the rocket starts with Lucy and Gru in the direction of a volcano. Just before the rocket hits, Gru can free Lucy and finally ask her for an appointment, which she agrees to. The two save themselves with a jump into the sea. "147 Rendezvous" later, the couple celebrates a romantic wedding in the country.

Even the meanest villain can make positive changes if the right people enrich their lives. Anyone who likes to laugh, smile and want to be touched should watch "I - Despicable Me 2" and, like the author, could leave the cinema happy and elated. "
