Stephen John "Steve" Coogan (born October 14, 1965 in Manchester , England ) is a British actor , comedian and screenwriter .

Life

Coogan comes from an Irish Catholic family. He started his career as a stand-up comedian and also worked as a voice actor for the famous Spitting Image puppet series .

His breakthrough came when he switched to the BBC , where he developed the series The Day Today with writers and producers Chris Morris and Armando Iannucci for the station's radio program . In The Day Today there was also the first appearances of Coogan berühmtester figure, the incompetent and often overwhelmed, but strotzendem with confidence presenter Alan Partridge . Partridge quickly became so popular that Coogan has featured him in four television series ( Knowing Me, Knowing You with Alan Partridge and I'm Alan Partridge, and Mid Morning Matters with Alan Partridge and This Time with Alan Partridge ), a feature film (Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa) , several television films and specials as well as in numerous appearances for other television series, comedy shows and festivals.

Some running gags from the programs of the fictional showmaster are now common knowledge in English popular culture, especially Partridge's habit of providing guests with excerpts from ABBA songs and the formula “Knowing me, Alan Partridge, knowing you, [name of guest], a -ha ”. In addition to the showmaster, Coogan has a few other characters in his repertoire, such as the title character of the BBC series Dr. Terrible's House Of Horrible , a parody of old horror films, and several residents of the fictional town of Ottle in the series Coogan's Run .
