In the Loop is a British comedy film from the year 2009 and a spin-off of the award-winning BBC - TV series The Thick of It .
action
During a radio interview on BBC Radio 4 , when asked whether the US would soon wage war in the Middle East , the often clumsy Development Secretary Simon Foster replied that it was "unpredictable". Malcolm Tucker, communications director of the prime minister, is appalled by this PR disaster and blames the young advisor Toby Wright on his first day at work for bringing Foster onto the "line of the minister". Thanks to his girlfriend Suzy, who works for Secretary of State Michael Rodgers, Toby is able to smuggle his boss Foster into a bilateral meeting of the State Department with representatives of the United States. While the American Assistant Secretary of State Karen Clark makes it clear that no war is imminent and wants to keep the peace, Foster tries to make up for his mistake from the radio interview, but gets tangled up in further ambiguous formulations. Through the casual mention of another US State Department employee, Clark learns that there appears to be a secret invasion preparation committee.
Back at the US State Department, Clark investigates this suspicion with the help of her assistant Liza Weld and finds out that her colleague Linton Barwick is actually organizing talks behind her back under the belittling name of "Future Planning Committee" that undermine her efforts for peace. Clark asks her old friend Lt. Asked General Miller for advice and "internationalized" the process by bringing in British Minister Foster. He travels to Washington with his colleague Toby, where Toby divulges the previously secret existence of the committee to an old friend at CNN . Linton's adversary now uses Foster's unfortunate formulations for his own purposes and continues to promote the war. Linton exerts pressure on Tucker, who then lets arguments against military intervention disappear and Linton provides the desired British reason. The President of the United States goes to the United Nations , where he succeeds in getting a UN resolution for war passed. It goes without saying that the UK Prime Minister also expresses his solidarity and declares war.
While Clark submits her resignation in protest, her boyfriend Miller decides, to her disappointment, to stay in office and support the war.
Previously, out of scruples about the warmongering, Foster had spread the rumor that he was considering his resignation. Then, however, he initially refuses, but is then fired by Tucker because of a minor conflict in his constituency.
criticism
"Solid debut film as a biting political satire with convincing actors, which describes politics and war as strategic mind games in which the lower ranks act as pawns."
