Simon Blackwell (born May 27, 1966 in Battersea , London ) is a British screenwriter and producer. He is mainly through his collaborations with Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain on the television shows Peep Show and The Old Guys as well as the film Four Lions (2010). For his work on the script for Kabinett out of control (2009), he was nominated for an Oscar for best adapted screenplay along with Armando Iannucci , Jesse Armstrong and Tony Roche .

Life

Simon Blackwell began his television career in 1999 as a screenwriter on Have I Got News for You , The Kumars at No. 42 , The Big Impression, and Armstrong and Miller .

Together with Armando Iannucci, he wrote for the first time in 2003 for the satirical television show Gash on Channel 4 . The collaboration with him continued in 2004: The Stupid Version , Time Trumpet and The Thick of It . In 2009 he was a co-writer for The Tick of It film spin-off Cabinet Out of Control (2009), the screenplay of which was nominated for an Academy Award at the 2009 Academy Awards. The two continued their collaboration on HBO's 2012-2019 television series Veep - The Vice President . For this he was awarded two Emmys . He was nominated six times.

With Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain, Blackwell wrote Peep Show and BBC Ones The Old Guys for Channel 4's Show . He also worked with the two on the script for the film Four Lions (2010) by Chris Morris .

In 2016 Blackwell created the sitcom Back with David Mitchell and Robert Webb for Channel 4.
