David Mitchell (born July 14, 1974 in Salisbury ) is a British comedian , actor , presenter , radio play speaker and author . With Robert Webb he has formed the comedian duo Mitchell and Webb since 1995 .

Career

David Mitchell studied history at the University of Cambridge . There he became a member and from 1995 to 1996 president of the renowned student theater club Footlights , where he met Robert Webb. Together they created their first comedy program for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe .

Mitchell and Webb

In 2001, Mitchell and Webb began their first sketch show The Mitchell and Webb Situation , which Play UK broadcasted in six episodes. In 2003, Channel 4 aired the first season of the sitcom Peep Show , which won multiple awards and became the station's longest-running series. In 2010, the eighth and ninth seasons were commissioned, which aired in 2012 and 2015. In December 2015, the Peep Show ended after twelve years and 54 episodes.

In 2005, Mitchell and Webb picked up on their sketch show and recorded the first season of the self-written radio series That Mitchell and Webb Sound , which was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 from 2005 to 2009 . The series was adapted for television in four seasons as That Mitchell and Webb Look . In 2006 they went on a live tour under the name The Two Faces of Mitchell and Webb .

In 2007 the movie Die Magier - Nothing but Lazy Magic ( Magicians ) was released, in which Mitchell and Webb play a stage wizard duo. That same year they recorded the radio sitcom Daydream Believers , starring Mitchell and Webb.

In 2009 the duo published the book This Mitchell and Webb Book .

In 2013, Mitchell and Webb starred in the three-part dramedy Ambassadors on BBC Two .

In 2017, the first season of the sitcom Back ran on Channel 4, in which he starred alongside Robert Webb. The series was extended for a second season.

Other Projects

In addition to his work with Robert Webb, David Mitchell has appeared in various television series. In 2007, he played a small role in the film I Could Never ( I Could Never Be Your Woman ). He also worked as a screenwriter for BBC 2 and voice actor on the series Phineas and Ferb . Mitchell has played William Shakespeare in the BBC comedy series Upstart Crow since 2016 .

David Mitchell appears in various panel shows ; Among other things, he is a frequent guest on the quiz show QI with Stephen Fry . In 2006 he was team captain alongside Johnny Vaughan in the show Best of the Worst , and since 2007 alongside Lee Mack in the series Would I Lie to You? . In 2010 he first appeared as a presenter on the television show The Bubble . Mitchell has hosted the radio show The Unbelievable Truth since 2007 . In 2011, Mitchell played a supporting role in the Victorian England comedy series The Bleak Old Shop of Stuff , in which Robert Webb played the lead role.

Mitchell writes a weekly column on changing topics in The Guardian and The Observer and publishes the video podcast David Mitchell's Soapbox on the YouTube platform .

Mitchell lives - like Robert Webb - in Kilburn in north London . Since November 2012 he is married to the author, presenter and poker player Victoria Coren .
