Radio play speaker
A radio play speaker (or audio book speaker) is a performer in a radio play or the speaker in an audio book . Mostly this activity is carried out by trained actors .
history
On US radio, from the 1930s onwards, it was increasingly international screen stars who appeared in radio productions as by-products of their actual work. Orson Welles (see also the “Radio Play” section of War of the Worlds ), Vincent Price , Boris Karloff , Basil Rathbone and Peter Lorre are just a few of the cinema greats whose voices have also become known through radio plays. One of the most popular American radio drama series was Suspense .
The most famous German speakers include u. a. Christian Brückner , Klaus Herm , Matthias Ponnier , Gert Haucke , Hans-Peter Hallwachs , Friedrich W. Bauschulte , Herbert Stass , Eduard Wandrey , Otto Sander , Kurt Lieck , Herbert Köfer , Gert Westphal , Hans Helmut Dickow , Ewald Wenck , Kurt Waitzmann , Hans Clarin , Edith Schollwer , Edith Hancke , Klaus Manchen , Gisela Trowe , Ilse Trautschold , Arno Wyzniewski , Heinz Schimmelpfennig , Hans Paetsch , Charles Regnier , Wolfgang Kieling , Katharina Brauren , Maria Becker , Horst Frank , Oliver Rohrbeck and Wolfgang Büttner . René Deltgen achieved fame in the role of the writer and private detective Paul Temple , a role he played in eleven multi-part radio plays between 1949 and 1966. Klaus Herm became particularly well known for the three very successful radio play series ( Pension Spreewitz , Back then it was - Stories from old Berlin , Professor van Dusen ) by RIAS Berlin , all of which were later repeated several times on Deutschlandfunk Kultur . Kurt Waitzmann was also very popular with Es happened in Berlin and Gert Haucke with Papa, Charly said ... The German record radio series (678 episodes) was Neumann, ringing twice , which was popular in the former GDR and also on Deutschlandfunk Kultur was repeated - with the well-known speakers Herbert Köfer, Brigitte Krause , Helga Piur , Helga Göring and others. One should not neglect the large number of successful children's radio plays. The long-lived humorous radio play series of the 1960s with the actor Rudi Stark (1914 - after 1978) and his radio report from Kasperlehausen , where he spoke Kasper himself, or Hans Clarin with Meister Eder and his Pumuckl (1962–1973) should be emphasized here . A special genre is the puppet theater radio plays that Fritz Genschow (he also spoke Kasper himself) produced about every three weeks as part of his program Onkel Tobias in the years 1947–1972 at RIAS Berlin, or those by the Augsburger Puppenkiste ( 1966–2017: 61 stories) designed radio plays with a wide range of topics.
