Kurt Friedrich Rudolf Waitzmann (born January 30, 1905 in Sandersdorf ; † May 21, 1985 in Berlin ) was a German actor and voice actor .

biography

Waitzmann took acting lessons in Mannheim in the late 1920s, where he also made his stage debut. Other theater stations were Dessau and Berlin. He not only played in theater productions, but also in musicals , such as Colonel Pickering in My Fair Lady (Berlin).

In 1937 Waitzmann made his feature film debut in Karl Ritter's war film company Michael . In addition to Gustav Knuth , he played in the melodrama Between Hamburg and Haiti , also in Erik Ode's adventure film adaptation of Wilhelm Speyer's youth novel Kampf der Tertia , in Robert Siodmak's east-west drama Tunnel 28 and Paul Verhoeven's film drama A Seventeen Year Old .

From 1964, his face became known to the West German cinema audience primarily through crime novels based on Edgar Wallace . In a total of seven film adaptations he played mostly dubious characters under three different directors ( Franz Josef Gottlieb , Alfred Vohrer and Harald Reinl ): The Crypt with the Riddle Castle , The Witcher (both 1964), News from the Witcher , The Unheimliche Mönch (both 1965), The Hunchback of Soho (1966), The Monk with the Whip (1967) and The Dog from Blackwood Castle (1968).

Waitzmann also took part in the second major feature film series in German-language cinema of the 1960s : in the Karl May film adaptations Durchs Wilde Kurdistan (1965) and Winnetou and Shatterhand in the Valley of the Dead (1968).

He has also appeared in numerous television productions such as the street sweepers It's Time and Tim Frazer from the series of Durbridge films.

In addition, he worked extensively as a voice actor from 1950 and lent his voice a. a. Eddie Albert ( Airport 80 ), Lew Ayres ( Kampfstern Galactica ), Whit Bissell ( Warlock ), Cyril Cusack ( The Black Vixen ), Leif Erickson (among others, every house of cards breaks ), James Mason ( The Verdict ), André Morell ( Ben Hur ) , Harry Morgan ( Cimarron ), Charles Vanel ( Three Brothers ) and Robert Sterling in the film adaptation of the musical Show Boat Mississippi Melody .

Kurt Waitzmann's sonorous voice was best known for the extremely popular radio play series Es Happened in Berlin , which was produced by RIAS Berlin from 1951 to 1972 .

Waitzmann's first marriage from 1939 to his fellow actor Anneliese Uhlig and his second marriage to Waltraud Runze , who was also active as an actress and voice actress. His brother-in-law Ottokar Runze made a name for himself as a director, actor and speaker.
