A man doesn't always have to be beautiful is a German film by director Hans Quest from 1956 .

action

Peter Moll, leader of a jazz band and singer, is said to have stolen the melody for his hit song A Man Doesn't Always Have to Be Beautiful from the composer Michael Schröder. Because he loses his nerve during the court hearing in which he is sentenced to damages as a plagiarist , he has to spend a day in prison. There he learns from the heavy Gustav that after a burglary he sewed a valuable diamond into a black brassiere and hid it in Mrs. Hebe's corset shop.

Peter sees this as the solution to his financial problems and, together with his friend Paul, goes in search of the precious item of laundry. But five black brassieres have now been sold and they have learned that not every woman likes to rummage through her lingerie. In addition, three professional thugs take part in the hunt for diamonds in bra. Finally the stone seems to be lost for good, but Peter and Paul can make friends with the two young women Lore and Liesel.

In the end, by a happy coincidence, they still find the long-sought diamond and can reap a reward. The composer Schröder also confesses, not entirely voluntarily, that he stole the melody and that Peter Moll is the author of the hit.

Reviews

  • Filmblätter : "The best thing about the film is its speed: You don't get bored with any scene and despite some repetitions in the ideas you have to laugh at the Rififi slapstick."
