Erich Fiedler
Erich Fiedler (born March 15, 1901 in Berlin , † May 19, 1981 ibid) was a German actor and voice actor .
Life
Erich Fiedler first began studying literature and art history , but then attended Max Reinhardt's drama school in Berlin, where he also made his theatrical debut at the Deutsches Theater in autumn 1922 . This was followed by engagements at the Stadttheater von Eisenach (1925), at the Intimate Theater in Nuremberg , at the Komödie in Dresden and from 1932 in Berlin.
In 1933 he made his film debut alongside Theo Lingen in the comedy Marion, which shouldn't be his film. For almost forty years he was a sought-after character and batch actor in film and television. The small, gaunt man with the pointed, high voice was often cast in comical roles, but also played tragicomic and meticulous, unpleasant (such as in Der Etappenhase ) and gloomy characters (as in The Student of Prague based on Hanns Heinz Ewers ). In his career spanning over a hundred films, he played a. a. next to Heinrich George ( sensational case Casilla ), Marika Rökk ( Kora Terry , women are better diplomats ), Ilse Werner ( Queen of a Night ), Hans Albers ( The Great Bomberg ), Heinz Rühmann ( The Youth Judge ) and Lilo Pulver ( Herrliche Zeiten im Spessart ).
In addition, Fiedler was already extensively involved in dubbing from 1935. Here, too, he often lent his distinguished, high-pitched and nasal voice to comedians, but also roles with an elaborate British understatement. So he became the German standard speaker of the comedian and character actor Robert Morley (including Topkapi and The Wax Flower Bouquet ). The many famous fellow actors whom he voiced until his retirement in 1976 included Ron Moody as H. Driffold Cosgood in Four Women and a Murder , David Niven ( The Black 13 ), Peter Cushing (as Sherlock Holmes in The Dog of Baskerville ), Sammy Davis Jr. ( The Benny Goodman story ), Bela Lugosi ( Abbott & Costello meet Frankenstein ), Ferdy Mayne (including as vampire count Krolock in Roman Polański's Dance of the Vampires ), Philippe Noiret ( Lady L ), Donald Pleasence ( The Inspector ), Basil Rathbone ( We are not angels ) and Terry-Thomas ( The Thumbnail ).
In the mid- 1970s , Fiedler withdrew from filmmaking; he took on his last dubbing role in 1976.
Erich Fiedler died on May 19, 1981 at the age of 80 after a long and serious illness in his hometown of Berlin. His grave is in the state-owned cemetery Heerstraße in Berlin-Westend (grave location: II-Ur 6-106).
