The green domino is a film drama by the director Herbert Selpin from 1935. The literary film adaptation is based on the novel Fall Claasen by the writer Erich Ebermayer . Brigitte Horney embodies the young, attractive Ellen Fehling and her mother in a double role .

Ellen Fehling is a young, attractive lady who grew up with her uncle von Falck and his wife without her birth parents. She is financially independent and in love with a man who has promised her marriage. When it becomes clear to the foster parents that their child is about to get married, however, they have to bring a truth to light that they have not yet spoken to their niece: The birth father of Ellen is a suspect of the murder of his divorced wife has been incarcerated since Ellen was born.
Having been informed of this, Ellen decides to visit her father in prison so that she can possibly help him in his situation. Her fiancé then revokes his vows and the only one who is still with Ellen is the young lawyer Dr. Nohl. Together they begin to work up the allegations against their biological father and come across a factual circumstance that is particularly sensitive: Apparently there was a tragic mix-up at the time and her father subsequently confessed to the murder voluntarily, although he had not committed it at all. The case is solved, her father is released from prison and Ellen has found the right husband in the young lawyer.

The film premiered on October 4, 1935 in Berlin's Gloria Palast . It was shown in Austrian cinemas on November 8, 1935. In Brazil it was shown in local cinemas under the title O Dominó Verde . The shooting took place in the period July to August 1935 in Munich on the Tegernsee . The film structures were designed by Otto Hunte and Willy Schiller . Hans Fritz Beckmann wrote the lyrics .
censorship
The Nazi regime checked the film for any content that was detrimental to the regime and imposed a youth ban on it on October 3, 1935, within the framework of the film censorship that was customary at the time, with the decision B.40230 .
