Emil Burri

Emil Burri (born December 11, 1902 in Munich ; † August 29, 1966 there ; born Emil Hesse ) was a German director and screenwriter .

He studied political science in Munich and Würzburg and received his doctorate in this subject. Burri then worked as a journalist and in the diplomatic service. He came to the theater as an actor, director and dramaturge . For a time he worked with Bertolt Brecht and wrote with him z. B. a script for the film adaptation of the drama Mother Courage and Her Children .

In 1933 he became a freelance writer and wrote his first film script. Burri soon became a veteran in this field. Director Viktor Tourjansky staged his designs several times . In 1942 he directed the film Beloved World for the only time with Brigitte Horney as the leading actress. Burri mostly worked as a co-author, from 1953 Johannes Mario Simmel was his colleague almost regularly in this regard .
