Waldemar Leitgeb

Waldemar Leitgeb (born September 14, 1901 in Constantinople , † July 21, 1974 in Karlsruhe ) was a German actor and theater director .

The son of the deputy director of the Anatolian Railway, Karl Leitgeb, received private acting lessons in Switzerland . In 1918 he made his debut at the City Theater of Lucerne .

In 1919 he went to Solothurn , and from 1920 to 1925 he worked at the City Theater in Bern . In 1925 he moved to Karlsruhe, 1928 to Hamburg and 1929 to the Deutsches Theater in Prague . From 1932 until the general opening of the theater in 1944, he was a member of the Württemberg State Theater in Stuttgart .

He had guest appearances in Munich , Berlin , at the Festival in Heilbronn and at the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna . From 1949 he belonged to the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe , where he was also a director from 1952. His productions here included Clouds Are Everywhere , The Great Day , The Little Tea House and Charley's Aunt .

Leitgeb took on important supporting roles in several German films in the 1930s and 1940s. His most important tasks were the impersonation of the Duke of Wellington in The Rothschilds in 1940 and that of Prince Grigory Orlow in Munchausen in 1943 .
