Ferdy Mayne
Ferdy Mayne (born March 11, 1916 as Ferdinand Philip Mayer-Horckel in Mainz , † January 30, 1998 in London ) was a German - British actor .
Life
Ferdy Mayne was born in Mainz in 1916 as the son of a German Jew and a half-Englishwoman. His father was a judge , his mother a singing teacher. In the 1930s he was a teenager to England to his aunt, the photographer and sculptor sent Lee Hutchinson, to keep him from persecution by the Nazis to protect. His parents were briefly interned in the Buchenwald concentration camp , but thanks to his mother's connections they were able to travel to England . During and after the Second World War , Mayne worked as an undercover agent for the British secret service MI5 . In 1986 MI5 secretary Joan Miller described this collaboration in her biography.
Ferdy Mayne was married to Deirdre de Payer from 1950 until their divorce in 1976. Their daughter Belinda Mayne also became an actress. In his private life he had a close friendship with his fellow actors Herbert Lom and Christopher Lee ; he also stood in front of the camera more often with both.
Mayne has made over 280 film and TV appearances. He was best known for his role as Count von Krolock (1967) in Roman Polański's film Dance of the Vampires . In Germany he played in the ZDF series Rivals of the Racetrack and alongside Inge Meysel in the Mrs. Harris television films.
In the 1990s, Mayne, a Californian by choice, contracted Parkinson's disease ; as a result of these he died on January 30, 1998 in London, where he had returned because of his family ties.
