The Black Stallion Returns (Original title: The Black Stallion Returns ) is an American feature film from 1983 with Kelly Reno in the lead role. It is loosely based on the young adult book Blitz kehrt heim by the American author Walter Farley and is a continuation of the film The Black Stallion .

action

Alec Ramsay lives with his black Arabian - Stallion , which he called "Black" (in the original Black ) calls and his mother in the New York suburb of Flushing . The stallion has now become a famous racehorse. After the horse is stolen one night, Alec finds a silver piece of jewelry in the stable, then pursues the kidnappers and can climb into the horse trailer unnoticed at the last moment, when it has already started moving. At the airport, Alec tries to escape on horseback, now on horseback, but fails. The kidnappers reveal that they are the prince of a Bedouin tribe of the Sahara, Abu Jakub ben Ishak and his daughter Tabari. Abu ben Ishak explains to Alec that he is the true owner of the stallion and that it had previously been stolen from him.

Alec, who now knows that the homeland of Abu ben Ishak and his black man, is a place called Wadi Draa in Morocco , follows the trail of his horse and goes to Casablanca as a stowaway by plane . There he managed to get a ride to the next Salih oasis by offering the truck driver the gem he found. He agrees, it is obvious that he desperately wants to own the piece of jewelry. What Alec doesn't know is that the man is Kurr, who traveled to New York at the same time as Abu ben Ishak to steal the stallion. However, he had just been surprised at the attempt by Abu ben Ishak and fled unrecognized. During an argument with the angry stallion, he had lost his jewelry, a tribal symbol of the Uruks to which he belongs. Kurr cheats on Alec and leaves him in the desert after a flat tire with no food or water. Alec follows the tire tracks on foot for a while, but is later picked up by a car that is used by numerous locals.

He gets to know the young Raj among the passengers, who is on his way home after attending a university. His intermediate goal is also Salih, which he reluctantly reveals. When Raj leaves the car, Alec spontaneously follows him, albeit under Raj's protest. Alec cleverly applies the knowledge he has acquired through Kurr and asks Raj to be his guest, which he does not dare to refuse according to a code of honor. The two then travel together with Meslar, Raj's bodyguard, who arrives soon after. Once in Salih, the protagonists soon find themselves in a tangle of attacks. Apparently Abu ben Ishak had to go to the oasis as well and almost fell into the trap of the Uruks, the hostile tribe of which Kurr also belongs, who were ambushing him there. Alec only manages to catch a glimpse of his stallion, but then has to quickly get to safety with Raj. Soon after, Raj explains the situation to him. The Uruks intend to steal or kill the horse Sheitan, as the black man is actually called. Likewise, Raj himself, as the son of another tribal chief, is targeted by the enemy, as he is also a rider in a large horse race in which the best horses of the tribes compete against each other every five years. Much is at stake for the tribes, as in the event of a defeat they will have to cede their best breeding animals to the winner of the race. The Uruks, according to Raj, do not produce good horses, whereas his father or Abu ben Ishak have often won. For this reason, the Uruk sought their salvation in an attack on Sheitan, one of the champions of the upcoming race.

On the further way, Alec, Raj and Meslar are found again by the enemy Uruk and attacked. Rescue Raj and Alec are able to save themselves thanks to an approaching sandstorm, but Meslar faces the enemies and is defeated by them. Soon Alec and Raj leave, they alone continue to migrate the supplies. However, after they also slaughtered the camel and disposed of it, they finally found a watering place that could save them. Shortly afterwards, the two are found by Raj's father and brought to safety. Raj Alec introduces his mare Sagr, with whom he will compete in the race and who is the pride of the tribe. Raj leads Alec to the edge of Abu ben Ishak's territory. After a warm farewell, Alec, who has followed the path shown to him, reaches a valley. There he meets his black man, but before he can greet him, he is seized by Abu ben Ishak's guards. He is surprised that Alec managed to get here, but wants Alec to leave immediately and fly back to New York. However, Alec can soften him by asking him to be his guest too. Meanwhile it turns out that Tabari, who is supposed to ride the stallion in the race, doesn't get along with the stallion at all. The wild horse throws them off again and again. She secretly asks Alec to practice with her, but they are surprised by hostile Uruks during their nightly venture, who kidnap the stallion again, as does Alec, who was able to swing on his back at the last moment. In the Uruk camp, Alec is able to escape together with the horse with the help of Meslar, who he believed to be dead and of course he tries to free.

When he brought the valuable animal back to Abu ben Ishak, Abu ben Ishak allowed him to ride the horse in the race, which he had previously categorically rejected at Alec's request. He also promises Alec that if he wins, he will give him the horse. On the day of the race, Alec meets Raj again, who competes with Sagr. During the course of the race, the two of them are attacked by the scar-faced rider of the Uruks, and he even manages to push Raj out of the saddle. However, Sagr can be caught again by Alec and the two friends continue the race. Another attack by Kurr, who shoots at the two of them from his truck, can be thrown off by the friends with a ruse. On the home stretch, Sagr and the black man are head to head, but the latter can decide the race for himself at the last moment with a nose's length.

In the subsequent selection of the best breeding horses, Abu ben Ishak, at Alec's pleading gesture, relinquishes Raj's father, so that Raj is allowed to keep his mare Sagr as a sign of the friendship that exists between him and Alec. Alec in turn, after one last look at the black stallion, who gallops wildly and freely through the valley with his herd, decides that this belongs here and in the end leaves the horse to Abu ben Ishak with the words " Maybe I'll come back ."

background

The film is based on the novel Blitz returns home by Walter Farley , although there are some differences in the plot. The stallion is not stolen by Abu ben Ishak during the night, but Alec hands over the horse to him after the horse has been able to prove his property beyond doubt. In addition, Alec travels to Arabia as a visitor accompanied by adults (in the film Morocco). The opponent acting in the book is called Ibn al Khaldun and is embodied in the film by the character Kurr, here too there are some differences, especially the nature of the hostile entanglements of the Bedouin tribes. On the whole, however, the adaptation sticks to the plot and the basic idea of the original.

As in the first part of the film series, the black stallion was played by Cass-Olé, a thoroughbred Arabian stallion bred in Texas (owner: San Antonio Arabians). His four white shackles and a white badge on his forehead were dyed black for the film. Hair pieces were also used for the full mane .

Sequels

In 2003, The Black Stallion ... how it all began was a kind of prequel, the plot of which is located before the first part of the series. In addition, from 1990 to 1993 a television series called Black, the black flash was produced.
