Mikuláš Peksa (born June 18, 1986 in Prague ) is a Czech biophysicist and politician of the Česká pirátská strana . From 2017 to 2019 Peksa was a member of the Czech lower house and since 2019 he has been a member of the ninth European Parliament as part of the Greens / EFA group .

Life

Youth and education

Mikuláš Peksa was born on June 18, 1986 in Prague and grew up there. After completing his school education at the Christian Doppler High School, he studied biophysics at the Charles University in Prague . In the course of his studies he specialized in nuclear magnetic resonance. Peksa then completed a postgraduate program as part of a cooperation between the Charles University and the University of Leipzig.

After completing his studies, Peksa worked as a researcher, Linux server administrator and programmer. He lives in Litoměřice .

Mikuláš Peksa joined the Czech Pirate Party ( Česká pirátská strana ) in 2013 . In April 2017, the Czech pirates elected him as an assessor on the party's executive committee, and he was re-elected in January 2018. In addition to his membership in the Czech Pirate Party, Peksa is also a member of the Pirate Party Germany .

In 2017, the Pirates nominated Peksa as the party's top candidate in the Ústí region for the elections to the Czech lower house , in which he won a seat and moved into the lower house.

For the European elections in 2019 ran Peksa for the first list position, but did not sit in the inner-party preselection proceedings against Marcel Kolaja by. He was then nominated for third place on the list. In the election, the Pirate Party was able to win significantly more votes than in the 2014 European elections : With 13.95 percent of the votes, the party won three of the 21 Czech mandates. Together with Markéta Gregorová and Marcel Kolaja , Paksa joined the Greens / EFA group after lengthy negotiations . Also up for discussion was joining the ALDE parliamentary group (now Renew Europe ), although the pirates refused to be in a parliamentary group with the Czech ruling party ANO . For his group, Peksa is a member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy , as well as a deputy member of the Budgetary Control Committee and the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs .

With the entry into the European Parliament, he resigned his mandate in the Czech lower house. František Navrkal moved up for him.
