Philipp Brammer was the son of the actor couple Dieter Brammer (under Gustaf Gründgens at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg ) and Inge Rassaerts ( Reinhardt seminarist ), who played with the ensemble “Die Brücke” from 1960–1974 in 90 countries. His older sister is the actress Christiane Brammer ( Die Fallers - Eine Schwarzwaldfamilie ).

Brammer, who last lived in Munich, left behind his wife, the actress and screenwriter Dominique Lorenz , and two daughters. On August 8, 2014, Brammer was buried after a requiem in the St. Stephen's Church of Graefelfing in the cemetery of his birthplace.
