John Christopher Reilly (born May 24, 1965 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American actor .

Life

Reilly graduated from DePaul University . He made his debut in the war film The Damned of War (1989) by Brian De Palma . He then gained increasing prominence through supporting roles in Days of Thunder , Gilbert Grape - Somewhere in Iowa and Wild River . Reilly collaborated several times with director Paul Thomas Anderson : in the thriller Last Exit Reno and the dramas Boogie Nights and Magnolia . He starred in both Gangs of New York and Aviator for director Martin Scorsese . Reilly has always appeared in front of the camera for renowned filmmakers. In 2003, three of his films were nominated for an Oscar for Best Film . For Chicago , which won Best Picture, Reilly was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award in the supporting actor categories .

In 2007 he starred in the comedy Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story and was nominated for the Grammy Awards and the Golden Globe Award for the song Walk Hard . Reilly starred with Will Ferrell in the comedies Ricky Bobby - King of Racing Drivers and Stepbrothers . He spoke the title character in the commercially successful animated film Ralph's enough and its sequel and played in the superhero film Guardians of the Galaxy as well as in Kong: Skull Island . Between 2010 and 2016, Reilly played the title character in the television series Check It Out! with Dr. Steve Brule , of the Tim and Eric series Awesome Show, Great Job! comes from. In 2011 he starred in one of the four main roles in the satirical comedy The God of Carnage, directed by Roman Polanski . In 2018, Reilly played comedian Oliver Hardy in the biopic Stan & Ollie , which earned him the Leading Actor Award from the Boston Society of Film Critics .

Reilly has been married to film producer Alison Dickey since 1992 and they have two sons.
