Anchorman - The Legend of Ron Burgundy

Anchorman - The Legend Returns (Original Title: Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues ) is an American  comedy film directed by Adam McKay and is the sequel to Anchorman - The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004). The film opened in German cinemas on January 30, 2014.

action

Reporter Ron Burgundy, his wife Veronica Corningstone, weather expert Brick Tamland, street reporter Brian Fantana and sports expert Champ Kind starred on a local channel 4 news show in San Diego, but the team was split up. Seven years later, Ron and Veronica work as a presenter duo for a national broadcaster in New York until their boss promotes Veronica and Ron quits at the same time. He can't cope with this situation at all and gives his wife the choice between a career and marriage. She chooses the job. This is how things go downhill with the abandoned Ron: First he hires out as a presenter of a dolphin show in a theme park, but there, too, he is fired. It wasn't until one day representatives of the new round-the-clock broadcaster GNN showed up and wanted to hire him for a news program that the tide turned. Ron sets out to hire his old comrades, but Brian Fatana is now a successful cat photographer, Champ Kind runs a fast food restaurant and Brick Tamland appears to have had a serious accident.

Reviews

In the USA the film received mostly good reviews - on Rotten Tomatoes 75% of the 177 recorded reviews were (rather) positive, with many reviews indicating that the sequel is very similar to its predecessor.

For example, B. Richard Corliss in Time Magazine :

"Wine connoisseurs would call this a new Burgundy with an old bouquet."

"Wine lovers would describe this film as a new Burgundy with an old bouquet."

- Richard Corliss : Anchorman 2 in Time Magazine

In the Internet Movie Database , the sequel achieved a rating of 6.3 (around 144,000 users voted).

German-speaking critics gave the film mixed ratings. While Andreas Staben on Filmstarts.de described the film as a “successful satire on the news business”, Cinema reported “insults and nonsense alternating - the mix doesn't always make it easy for the viewer”. Christopher Diekhaus described the sequel in his reviews for Kino-Zeit.de and Spielfilm.de as “questionable pleasure” with only “a few successful gags” and all the more “dull jokes”. The film service found that the sequel wanted to "continue the carefree comedy of the original", which did not quite succeed. Nevertheless, the "episodically told film entertained with its carefree humor, which despite satirical swipes primarily revolves around the stupidity of its main characters."
