Thomas Christopher "Chris" Parnell (born February 5, 1967 in Memphis , Tennessee ) is an American actor and comedian .

Life

Parnell first attended the high school in German Town and then graduated from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem the Bachelor of Fine Arts . He taught acting at his former school before moving to Los Angeles , where he was initially a member of the improvisational theater The Groundlings for a few years . In 1998, he joined the ensemble of the NBC - Comedy - TV show Saturday Night Live on, he will be including as Bing Crosby , Eminem , George W. Bush , John McCain and Tom Hanks occurred. In 2001 he was fired by producer Lorne Michaels due to budget constraints , but was hired again shortly afterwards. Due to further budget cuts, Parnell was fired in 2006 alongside Horatio Sanz and Finesse Mitchell . With eight seasons he is one of the longest-standing ensemble members of the show.

Between 2006 and 2013 he played the recurring guest role of Doctor Spaceman in 25 episodes in the sitcom 30 Rock , which was produced by SNL producer Lorne Michaels. From 2011 and 2014 he played Fred Shay in the comedy series Suburgatory .
