St. Simons Island is a small island in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Georgia ( east coast of the United States ). It belongs to the Golden Isles and is located in Glynn County in the state of Georgia . The main town is St. Simons . In 2010 the island had 12,743 inhabitants.

Tourism is the main occupation for the residents. There are numerous cotton plantations on the island .

The first inhabitants of the island started fishing around 2,000 BC. Settled (initially only seasonally).
