# 9 is an American computer animation film directed by Shane Acker and released in 2009. The film is based on the Oscar- nominated short film 9 by Shane Acker. The film was released in Germany on September 3, 2010.

action

After an apocalyptic war between humans and the machine , the world is in ruins, humanity is wiped out. Rag doll # 9 wakes up in a half-destroyed house. She finds an object (talisman) next to a dead scientist and takes it. After leaving the house, # 9 meets another doll, # 2, on his hike. She repairs the voice of # 9 and discovers the talisman, but before there can be another exchange between the two, they are attacked by a cat-like machine called a beast . # 2 saves # 9 and is then abducted along with the talisman. # 9 continues to wander around and is discovered by another doll. She takes # 9 to a hiding place in a dilapidated cathedral, where they meet more dolls led by # 1. After an argument, # 9 can convince # 5 to seek and save # 2. You can find him in a large factory with the machine Brain , which # 9 accidentally brings to life with the help of the talisman. As a result, # 2 is killed - the machine sucks the life energy out of him. The others manage to escape with the help of # 7 believed dead.

To learn more about the connections and the talisman, they sneak back to the hiding place of the other dolls. There they are attacked by a new, airworthy machine and can only destroy them through consistent cooperation. Their refuge burns down - the dolls are now homeless and are being chased by Brain.

On the run they are outwitted by a new type of machine, # 8 and # 7 are taken to the factory. The puppets trace the new machine back to the factory, # 9 breaks into the factory and begs the others to destroy the factory if he doesn't come back. # 9 is too late to save # 8, Brain sucked it out. In spite of this, # 7 is saved and the factory is destroyed. However, Brain survived and now begins the pursuit of the surviving dolls himself - killing # 5 in the process.

During the dramatic escape, # 6 advises # 9 to go back to the source - to the first room - and is then also killed by Brain.

While the other puppets are cannoning the approaching Brain, # 9 goes back to the first room where it was made. There he finally comes across the secret of Brain and the talisman. In a duel between Brain and # 9, # 1 sacrifices himself and gives # 9 the necessary second to snatch the talisman away from Brain. # 9 activates the talisman and can destroy Brain. The talisman has now stored the souls or the life energy of the killed dolls, and # 9 releases them into the sky. Then rain sets in, and the raindrops create new life.

Characters

Using a method that was not described in detail, the scientist was able to separate parts of his soul and manifest them in the pupae. The dolls were numbered based on the order in which they were created. They differ not only in their pure appearance, but also in their materials and the function derived from them. Each doll has special character traits that dominate their actions and have an impact on the action.

  • # 1 is the oldest and the leader of the group. At the same time, he combines arrogance and cowardice. In his endeavors to protect the group, he closes himself off to new things. With his conservative behavior, he puts the group at risk.
  • # 2 is the creative and researcher. He is friendly and helpful and intrigued by the past. On his travels through the rubble, he discovered one or the other useful thing and turned it into useful devices.
  • # 3 and # 4 are twins and historians. Unable to speak, they communicate using sign language and flickering lights instead of eyes. You can also project old films and pictures.
  • # 5 is the caring one. He takes care of the others and tries to de-escalate in disputes.
  • # 6 is the artist and prophet, but seems rather crazy. He sees things that others do not see, often with clairvoyant gifts. Instead of fingers, he uses fountain pen tips.
  • # 7 is the warrior and loner, although the gender is only indicated by the voice. She only joins the group later and plays an important role in fights.
  • # 8 is the brutal and simple-minded. He's the bodyguard of # 1 and does what he's told.
  • # 9 is the youngest and best processed of the puppets, but unable to speak at the beginning of the plot. His curiosity and lack of experience make mistakes.
