Norbert Gastell
Norbert Gastell , actually Emilio Norberto Gastell , (born October 14, 1929 in Buenos Aires , Argentina ; † November 26, 2015 in Munich-Ramersdorf ) was a German actor and voice actor . His voice was best known in German-speaking countries through the character of Homer Simpson , whom he spoke in the cartoon series The Simpsons for over 25 years. He also played prominent speaking roles in the series ALF , in which he dubbed neighbor Trevor Ochmonek, Disney's Gummy Bear Gang (King Gregor) and Cheers (“Coach” Ernie Pantusso).
Life
Norbert Gastell was born in Buenos Aires in 1929 to German parents. His father, the journalist Otto Hellmuth Georg Max Gastell (1902–1994) from Freiburg im Breisgau , had emigrated with his wife from Munich in 1925 to his brother Harald in Argentina. In Argentina he was an editor at La Plata , the largest German newspaper in South America at the time. In 1938 the family returned to Munich due to a severe asthma illness in their father, where Otto Gastell worked for the Süddeutsche Zeitung . He later worked for newspapers in Rosenheim and Bad Aibling .
Training and stage
Norbert Gastell attended the Wittelsbacher Gymnasium in Munich, but left before his Abitur to go to Ruth von Zerboni's drama school. In 1950 he received his first stage engagement in Tübingen. From 1956 Munich became his artistic home; he played at the Volkstheater im Sonnenhof and at the Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel as well as at the Kleine Komödie .
Career
Gastell has also worked as an actor for film and television since the 1960s. In 1966 he was involved in three episodes of the science fiction series Raumpatrouille ( Planet out of course , Deserters and Invasion ). He was also known for his role as forest director Leonhard in the ZDF series Forsthaus Falkenau at the side of Christian Wolff .
Gastell has also worked extensively in dubbing since 1956. He lent his voice to Telly Savalas (Hot Border USA) , Ned Beatty ( Roseanne ), Nicholas Colasanto (Cheers) , Hector Elizondo (Stop the death ride of the subway 1-2-3) , Angus Scrimm ( Phantasm II ) , Donald Sutherland in On the Road to Cold Mountain and Robert Hardy as Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge in the Harry Potter films.
Gastell achieved particularly great popularity through the speaking role of the character Homer Simpson in the animated series The Simpsons , which he held from 1991 until his death in November 2015. The broadcasting station ProSieben honored Gastell's work in August 2016 with a “Thank you, Norbert Gastell” TV spot. Gastell was supposed to synchronize the role of Rector Seymour Skinner and the cabaret artist Hans Jürgen Diedrich that of Homer, but Diedrich gave up the role immediately after a day.
In the ALF series , he dubbed John LaMotta in the role of neighbor Trevor Ochmonek. In the Disney -Zeichentrickserie Gummibärenbande King Gregor from Dunwin spoke of him. He also dubbed Miles Mayhem in the animated series MASK as well as various villains in Spider-Man and his extraordinary friends , including Dr. Doom and Loki. He also voiced the editor-in-chief J. Jonah Jameson in the animated series New Spider-Man . He has also had some speaking roles on various Star Trek series and has also spoken Marvin Marsh (Stan's grandfather) on South Park since 2006 . He had another speaking role in the series Game of Thrones , in which he dubbed Lord Commander Jeor Mormont of the Night's Watch. In the German version of the video game Mafia II , he spoke the Mafioso Leo Galante.
In addition, Norbert Gastell was heard in many radio play productions .
family
In 1956 Norbert Gastell married Inge Fürst. There are two daughters from this marriage. Since 1989 he was married to his colleague Karin Heym , with whom he stood in front of the camera in Diether Krebs ' sketch show Voll besides - Gags with Diether Krebs . Gastell lived with his wife in Munich-Ramersdorf, where he died on November 26, 2015 at the age of 86.
