James Karen
James Karen (born Jacob Karnofsky on November 28, 1923 in Wilkes-Barre , Pennsylvania , † October 23, 2018 in Los Angeles ) was an American actor .
Life
James Karen was born in Wilkes-Barre, northeast Pennsylvania, in 1923. His parents Mae Freed and Joseph H. Karnofsky were Jewish immigrants from Russia .
As a young man, Karen was encouraged to pursue an acting career by Congressman Daniel J. Flood . This was an amateur mime and had engaged Karen for a production at a municipal theater in Wilkes-Barre. Karen later attended drama school in New York City. His debut on Broadway he gave in 1947 in Elia Kazan's production of A Streetcar Named Desire with Marlon Brando , where he was a stand-in for the of Karl Malden worked played Mitch.
Karen has appeared in various soap operas . In Young and Passionate - As the World Turns , he played the Dr. Burke and on All My Children , he was the first to cast Lincoln Tyler. He was best known for the role of Eliot Randolph in Eight Is Enough and for his role in the horror film Damn the Zombies Are Coming . He was also known to audiences on the US East Coast as the spokesman for the commercials for the Pathmark supermarket chain , in which he participated for two decades. His work as an actor includes more than 200 film and television productions.
Karen was married to the folk singer Susan Reed from 1958 to 1967 . A child emerged from this connection. He later entered into a second marriage. In 1986, Karen was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Actor for his role in Damn, the Zombies Are Coming . In 1998 he received the Life Career Award at the Saturn Awards . He died in Los Angeles in 2018 at the age of 94.
