Beverly Hills Boys Club is an American drama from 1987 directed by Michael Schultz . The two-part television film , which is also known under the alternative title The Deadly Games of the Yuppies , is based on the true story of the Billionaire Boys Club fraud case , which occurred in 1983.

action

Joseph 'Joe' Hunt, who comes from a wealthy family, and his school friends, who also no longer want to wait for their inheritance , raise an investment fund based on a pyramid scheme in order to generate as much money as possible. This is known as the Billionaire Boys Club and ensures that the group gets richer and more influential. But their soaring is threatened with an abrupt end when the money runs out again. After a few murders and doubts, the prosecutor's office becomes aware of this and, after the investigation, begins the prosecution.

criticism

"Long TV drama that spreads the power games of the rich without any depth."

"Shaky story, but great actors."

background

The real Joseph Hunt tried to prevent the two-part from being broadcast. However, his lawsuit was unsuccessful. NBC then marketed the broadcast as "The Movie Joe Hunt Didn't Want to See".

Shortly before their parents were murdered, Lyle and Erik Menendez saw the film which, according to some media reports, is said to have inspired them for their act.

After the film was broadcast for the first time on November 8 and 9, 1987 on the US television station NBC , it was released directly on VHS in Germany in March 1989 .
