John Dye

John Carroll Dye (born January 31, 1963 in Amory , Mississippi , † January 10, 2011 in San Francisco , California ) was an American actor .

Life

Dye was born the eldest son of James Dye and his wife Lynn; his father worked as a cabinet maker, his mother was a housewife. Dye made his first acting experiences as a child during his school days. In a school play at Cleveland High School in Cleveland , Tennessee , he played the youngest child of the famous Trapp family in a performance of the musical The Sound of Music . Dye also played the trombone in the school band there. He attended Tupelo High School in Tupelo , where he graduated from high school in 1981. While at Tupelo High School , he again appeared in a school performance of The Sound of Music ; this time he played the eldest son of the Trapp family, Friedrich von Trapp. There he also directed a school production of Grease .

After graduating from high school, Dye first attended Mississippi State University , majoring in law , with the aim of pursuing a career as a lawyer specializing in civil law . After a year, however, he moved to Memphis State University , where he studied drama and theater at the College of Communication .

In 1984 he got his first film role as Skip in the comedy Zoff at the Hoover Academy , opposite Judd Nelson . In the television series Shadow of Passion , he played the role of Jason Carter in several episodes. In 1986 the film Bumblebees in the Butt followed , a trivial comedy in which he played together with Virginia Madsen and Cynthia Gibb . He had his first leading role in 1987 in the comedy The Secret of My Career . In 1989 he was seen alongside James Earl Jones and Eric Roberts as the computer geek Virgil Keller in the martial arts film Karate Tiger IV - Best of the Best .

From the late 1980s on, Dye worked almost exclusively for television . After an episode role in the crime series Murder is Her Hobby , he appeared in the war series NAM - Dienst in Vietnam and in the short-lived television series Jack's Place and Hotel Malibu (with Jennifer Lopez ).

Dye gained particular prominence among television audiences through the role of Andrew in the series A Touch of Heaven , which he played from 1996 to 2003. He had previously embodied the recurring series role of Andrew for a few episodes in the series spin-off , Ein Wink des Himmels . In A Touch of Heaven , he was part of the main cast of the series until the end.

Private

Dye had two other brothers, Jerry and Jamie Dye. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the United States of America , whose services he attended regularly. Dye died of a heart attack in his San Francisco home .
