Walter "Eric" Anthony Roberts (born April 18, 1956 in Biloxi , Mississippi ) is an American actor .

Life

Eric Roberts was the eldest child of Walter (1933–1977) and Betty Roberts, b. Bredemus (1934-2015) was born when his father was serving in the Air Force and stationed in Biloxi . He is the older brother of Lisa Roberts Gillan (* 1965) and Julia Roberts (* 1967), who like him work in the film business.

After their parents' divorce in 1972, Roberts first moved to Smyrna near Atlanta with his mother . From 1973–1975 he was able to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London thanks to the financial support of his father . He later continued his acting training at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City .

In 1977 Roberts received the first theater roles . In the same year he also acted as Ted Bancroft in the television series Another World . In 1985 he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Runaway Train . For the film The Godfather - Part III he was offered a role, which he declined. Later a career kink followed due to personal problems. On December 3, 1987, he was arrested for disturbing the peace (due to an argument with his wife whom he bumped into a wall during the argument) and had been found to be drugs . In later interviews, Roberts commented on his drug problem.

In 2002 he took on a leading role in the television series Office Girl and was seen alongside Clarence Williams III in Ja Rules music video Down Ass Chick (feat. Charli Baltimore ) as a detective. In 2004, Roberts appeared in the music video for the single Mr. Brightside by The Killers with. In 2005 he was featured in two Mariah Carey music videos , It's Like That and the sequel We Belong Together . In 2008 an appearance in the music video of Akon feat. Eminem Smack That . In 2012 Roberts starred alongside Danny Trejo in the adventure science fiction thriller The Cloth . He also took part in the fourth season of the reality TV show Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew participated and was escorted during a drug rehab.

His daughter Emma , born in February 1991, is also an actress, as is his wife, Eliza Roberts , to whom he has been married since 1992.

Eric Roberts has played a total of 8398 actors (as of March 2015).
