One Way (German working title: Blaze ) is a movie made in 2006 by the director Reto Salimbeni , who also wrote the screenplay. In the drama or psychological thriller Til Schweiger , Michael Clarke Duncan , Lauren Lee Smith and Eric Roberts can be seen in the leading roles.

Eddie Schneider is a charismatic and successful creative director in a top advertising agency in New York . He is known in the agency for his way of communicating and his in-depth expertise, and so there are no assignments that he does not land. Eddie is in a relationship with Judy Birk, the daughter of the head of the agency, but he often cheats on Judy with other women. His life is made up of lies and deceit. He is aware of this, but justifies his infidelity to himself with his business success.
Eddie was able to win an important customer from the aviation industry for the agency, whereupon his employer and future father-in-law offered him a partnership at the agency and the staff got together for a drink in the evening . After this little celebration, he and his colleague and good friend Angelina Sable make their way to the underground car park, where she discovers that she has forgotten her key in the office. While Eddie is on his way home, Angelina is raped twice, vaginally and anally, by her work colleague Anthony Birk, the brother of Eddie's friend, in the office of the agency .
When Eddie drives into the underground car park the next morning, he finds Angelina there, tearfully telling him about her rape. Eddie then takes Angelina to a hospital, whose doctor informs the police.
The Birk family hire a star attorney to ensure Anthony is found innocent. In addition, Eddie is blackmailed by Anthony with photos that a private investigator hired by him has made of Eddie's countless meetings with other women. Anthony forces Eddie to testify for him in court so that he can stay free. In order to continue enjoying his full life and not to jeopardize his upcoming wedding to Judy, Eddie helps his future brother-in-law Anthony get out of the rape charge by lying under oath in court.
When Anthony is declared innocent, the desperate victim Angelina, who has since found shelter with a nun, tries to commit suicide by hanging. At the last moment, however, an army general appears in her delusions, who had already appeared to her during a rape that occurred in her youth in order to dissuade her from attempting suicide.
In the meantime, Judy learns of Eddie's meeting with another woman and ends the relationship. Her father Russell Birk eventually fires him from the agency, and Eddie is left out of the world he created for himself.
However, Eddie quickly finds a new job in another agency. When he wants to celebrate that at night in a techno club, he meets Anthony there. The vile Anthony provokes Eddie until there is a fight. Just as Eddie is leaving the club, Angelina, who is looking for revenge, enters the house, dressed in a blonde wig. She throws an intoxicant into Anthony's drink. When he is barely in control of his senses, she makes him believe that he wants to spend the night with him. You leave the discotheque and drive to an abandoned square by the harbor. In the car, she explains to Anthony that she likes handcuffed sex. Under this pretext, she handcuffed his hands to the steering wheel. Angelina reveals herself by taking off her wig. Anthony freaks out and tells her to free him immediately. He apologizes for raping her, but Angelina doesn't care. She gets out of the car, opens the passenger door and puts on a strap- on dildo with which she penetrates Anthony. Then she points a gun at Anthony and shoots him.
After the body is found, Angelina is questioned as a suspect by the police, but the nun she lives with covers her with a false alibi. Finally, since Eddie had a public fight with Anthony, Angelina can twist the case so that he becomes the prime suspect. Without the support of his former family and friends, Eddie finds himself in custody. Angelina visits him in prison and privately confesses to him the murder of Anthony. Eddie's attorney begs him to use Angelina's confession in court, but Eddie refuses, and so it now looks like Eddie will have to serve a life sentence. Finally, his ex-girlfriend, Judy, brings the crucial, truthful alibi that will save him from imprisonment. Judy confesses her love for Eddie, but the two fall apart. Angelina drives to the airport.

Budget and gross profit
The budget of the film was about 7.1 million euros. Among other things, the film was supported with funds from the Filmstiftung Nordrhein-Westfalen and the Filmförderungsanstalt (FFA). Up to the beginning of February 2007 almost 140,000 visitors were counted at the German box office.
Filming and casting
The main roles were played by Til Schweiger , Michael Clarke Duncan , Lauren Lee Smith and Eric Roberts . Fahri Ogün Yardım can be seen in a supporting role . Schweiger learned this in 2005 while filming the film Wo ist Fred? know and knew how to convince him of his acting. Thereupon Schweiger decided to take Yardım to the filming in Canada against any financial concerns, in order to let him play a taxi driver.
The film was shot from January 28, 2006 to March 30, 2006 in Toronto , Vancouver , New York , Cologne and Münster . In the studios of the Cologne Magic Media Company , the interior shots of the New York advertising agency and the court scenes were filmed; the techno club scenes in the Düsseldorf nightclub Nachtresidenz . The prison scenes were created in the Münster correctional facility . The shooting in Toronto was canceled due to a blizzard and the missing shots of the scene were then shot in Germany.
In the credits, Yardım is incorrectly listed as Fahri Ogün, since his middle name was mistaken for his last name.
Film music
In addition to the title track Try Again by the English rock band Keane , the score includes pieces by artists such as Xavier Naidoo , Placebo , Sunrise Avenue and Northern Lite . Tim Rice-Oxley, member of the Keane band, remembers the following about the theme song:
“I wrote the song while on tour and played it to Tom a few days later. Shortly afterwards, in Stockholm, we recorded a demo version, and I can still remember exactly how we were sitting at the mixer and Tom was singing the song and I suddenly got goose bumps from head to toe when he first played linked his voice to the melody. I don't know either - suddenly this spontaneous idea had become the ultimate, modern love song. At such points, you realize that things fit together and, most importantly, that we were still able to create music together that really touches us all! Therefore "Try Again" became one of my personal favorites. "

The film premiered on October 21, 2006 at the Hollywood Film Festival in Los Angeles . The film was launched in German cinemas on January 25, 2007, and was shown in Austria one day later.

Til Schweiger was nominated for the best male actor and Reto Salimbeni for the best screenplay for the preselection of the German Film Award.
The German Film and Media Evaluation FBW in Wiesbaden awarded the film the title valuable.
criticism
The editors of Nordbayern.de judged: “Til Schweiger didn't do himself a favor with this third-rate thriller cut. 'One Way' is a dead end. ”Birte Lüdeking from Critic.de is of the opinion that“ the German thriller produced by Til Schweiger about a raped woman who strikes back tries to jump on the popular vengeance genre. His scenes of violence are less shocking than the clumsy, often involuntarily comical viewer manipulation. ”The editors of the lexicon of international films summed up the film as“ a thriller about guilt, atonement and forgiveness, staged at the lowest level, with hopelessly charged actors. The attempt to imitate American genre cinema fails miserably because of the outrageous plot and the inadequacy of its implementation. "
Daniel Fürg from kino-site.de found words of praise: “With 'One Way', Reto Salimbeni wanted to shed light on the victim situation of the constant abuse of power and did this in a wonderful way. The film is almost in no way inferior to a real Hollywood production. [...] A really interesting and good film that not only Til Schweiger fans should watch. "
