Keane is an English pop rock band from Battle in East Sussex that was formed in 1995.

history

Tom Chaplin , Tim Rice-Oxley, and Richard Hughes grew up in Battle and went to school together. In 1995 Rice-Oxley founded the band The Lotus Eaters with Dominic Scott , to which Richard Hughes soon joined. Tom Chaplin joined in 1997, and the band was initially renamed Cherry Keane and eventually Keane . In 2000 and 2001 the group released the singles Call Me What You Like and Wolf at the Door , which were only released in a small edition. Meanwhile, Dominic Scott left the band.

In 2002 the trio played two acoustic concerts in small bars, attended by Simon Williams, the record manager of Fierce Panda , which among others have the bands Coldplay , Idlewild and Supergrass under contract. He offered them to record a single. That's how Everybody's Changing came out , and soon after that, Keane appeared on the BBC and Xfm radio stations . The Sunday Times and NME praised the newcomers and helped the band to become more popular with the general public. 2004 appeared major label - debut album Hopes and Fears in Iceland Records , from which the single Somewhere Only We Know was extracted. Due to the great popularity of the song, the title is currently still used for television productions. In 2005, Keane received two BRIT Awards for the best British album and the British breakthrough act award for this album . The band also made it into the charts and onto the stages of major music festivals in Germany .

In summer 2006 the second album Under the Iron Sea was released , which sounds much more adventurous and complex than its predecessor. The Singles Is It Any Wonder? and Crystal Ball made Keane even more popular outside of the UK. The song Nothing in My Way is also the theme song for the game FIFA 07 .

After the singer Tom Chaplin was admitted to a rehab clinic for a few weeks in the fall of 2006 , the North American tour had to be canceled. After a break of about two months, the trio continued their tour. The band almost broke up due to this crisis, especially since Chaplin left the band during a concert tour in Japan without informing the band or the management and boarded a plane to England. The entire North American tour was canceled and there was no adequate replacement program in the later period. Keane also appeared at the Live 8 and Live Earth charity music events .

In 2007, Keane contributed the theme song Try Again to the film One Way .

On October 13, 2008, the third album Perfect Symmetry was released. In November 2008, Keane played live in three German cities. During the tour, Keane was accompanied by Jesse Quin, an English musician, among others.

On May 10, 2010 the EP Night Train was released , for which Keane recorded two pieces with rapper K'naan . The EP also includes a cover version of the song You've Got to Help Yourself by Yellow Magic Orchestra .

On February 3, 2011, it was announced that Jesse Quin had joined the band.

Released internationally on May 7, 2012, the fourth studio album Strangeland was released in Germany on May 4, 2012. While Perfect Symmetry was still an experimental excursion, the four-piece band has now returned to the recipe for success of the first two albums and once again builds on catchy piano melodies completely im Styles of piano pop / rock. As a result of their world tour, however, new influences, especially from the Asian region, can be recognized. The album climbed to 5th place in the German charts and went straight to 1st place in the English charts in the first week.

On June 6, 2019, the band released a new single called The Way I Feel and announced the release of their fifth studio album, Cause and Effect, on September 20 of the same year.
