Supergrass is a British rock band from Oxford , which emerged from The Jennifers in 1993 and split up in 2010. The band was re-founded in 2019.

Band history

Before Gareth Michael Coombes and Daniel Goffey formed the group, they played in the short-lived band The Jennifers between 1991 and 1993. Together with Michael Quinn they formed Supergrass in 1993 and soon got a record deal with Parlophone . Their debut album I Should Coco reached the top of the British charts in 1995, at the height of the Britpop wave, with the single combination Alright / Time they came to number 2. They were recognized as best new band at the NME Awards and received one Brit Award for best newcomer . The second album also proved to be successful and, like its predecessor, reached platinum status in Great Britain.

In 1999 the band released their self-titled third album, which included the song Pumping On Your Stereo , which reached number 11 on the UK charts. The highly acclaimed video for the song was shot by Hammer & Tongs .

In 2002 Tony Hoffer produced their next album, Life on Other Planets , which was mixed by Dave Sardy . Rob Coombes has been a full member of the band since that album. They contested part of the subsequent tour together with their friends Foo Fighters . Two years later the band celebrated their tenth anniversary with a best-of collection. In 2005, Road to Rouen, recorded in Normandy , was followed by a rather calm album.

In June 2007 the band finished recording their last album in Berlin. It was released in spring 2008 and is titled Diamond Hoo Ha . The first songs from the album were Diamond Hoo Ha Man and Bad Blood . It was the band's first album that did not reach the top ten of the charts in their home country, although it was largely received positively by the critics. Diamond Hoo Ha was also included in the VPRO Song of the year compilation . In 2008 the band left the Parlophone record label , where their previous albums were released. She founded her own label Supergrass Records and began recording another album, which had the working title Release the Drones , but was no longer completed.

On April 12, 2010, the band announced the split after 17 years. Danny Goffey became the new drummer for Babyshambles that same year .

On September 6, 2019, Supergrass performed together again in the original line-up. A tour has been announced for 2020.
