Code Black (also Code Black - Doctors at the Limit ) is an American hospital series on the broadcaster CBS , which was ordered on May 7, 2015 and aired from September 30, 2015. Due to solid ratings of around nine million viewers per episode per week, CBS ordered five additional episodes for the first season in November 2015, bringing it to a total of 18. The series goes back to the documentary of the same name by Ryan McGarry, which shows the everyday work in the LA County Hospital as well.
The German-language premiere of the first season of broadcast pay TV transmitters Sat.1 emotions of 9 February to 31 May 2016 the first broadcasts in free TV ran between February 24 and June 1, 2016 ProSieben .
In May 2016, the series was extended for a second season. The broadcast in the United States began on September 28, 2016. Due to profound changes, Bonnie Somerville and Raza Jaffrey will no longer be part of the series from the second season. Boris Kodjoe , of German origin, and Jillian Murray were promoted to the ranks of the leading actors and Rob Lowe was newly engaged.
A third season was commissioned in May 2017.
The German-language premiere of the second season sent the pay TV transmitters Sat.1 emotions from 28 March 2017. A free-TV broadcasting took place from July 12, 2017 on ProSieben again instead.
On May 23, 2018, CBS announced the cancellation of the series after three seasons. The series finale aired on July 19, 2018.
action
The series depicts the daily work of doctors in an understaffed and overwhelmed emergency room in a fictional hospital in Los Angeles. The title “Code Black” results from the hospital emergency codes that are now typical in North America , which are intended to alert hospital staff in this disguised type of message without disturbing people who are not part of the staff.
Code black means that the emergency room has reached or even exceeded its capacity and that optimal care for emergencies can no longer be guaranteed.
The core of the series are the sometimes acute and extremely critical emergencies that the permanent staff has to cope with together with some assistant doctors. Some personal aspects of the characters are also highlighted, such as: B. Dr. Leanne Rorish and the loss of her family in a traffic accident that she was the only one to survive.
On the other hand, for example, Dr. Mario Savetti, who, as a self-chosen loner, is only slowly learning to trust his colleagues and to integrate into the team.
With every resident doctor there is a (albeit small) development from episode to episode, be it on a collegial or professional basis.
Cast and dubbing
Scalamedia GmbH, Munich, is responsible for the German-language synchronization of the series. The dialogue is directed by Hubertus von Lerchenfeld .
particularities
Some of the supporting characters belonging to the team simply disappear in the course of the series and are then no longer mentioned. This is unusual, normally characters are out of the action written out as justification then used for. B. a long journey or the character dies serial death.
