Nafessa Williams (born December 4, 1989 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American actress . She gained fame mainly through the role of Anissa Pierce from the series Black Lightning .

Early years

Nafessa Williams was born in Philadelphia. She has a younger sister. In Philadelphia she attended Robert E. Lamberton High School. Upon graduation, she began studying criminal law at West Chester University . She quickly lost interest in her first career aspiration and was fired after unauthorized participation in a casting in Philadelphia. Williams mentions Will Smith , who, like her, comes from Philadelphia, as inspiration to become an actress . So she moved to Los Angeles like him and took acting classes with Smith's drama teacher, Aaron Speiser, for four years.

Career

In 2011, Williams was cast in the role of Deanna Forbes in the soap opera Love, Lie, Passion . The role should initially only assume a small extent, but was expanded in the course of the year, so that Williams was part of the regular cast until shortly before the long-term series was discontinued in the same year. Also in 2011 she was seen in the film Streets . After a few small film and television roles, she appeared as Simone in the 2015 film drama Brotherly Love . In 2016 Williams was Dr. Charlotte Piel in a small role in the series Black Lightning . In 2017 she appeared in the series Twin Peaks and Tales . In 2018 she was cast as Anissa Pierce in one of the leading roles in the series Black Lightning , in which she can be seen alongside Cress Williams , China Anne McClain and Christine Adams . In the series, she plays one of the first black homosexual superheroes. In 2019, Williams starred as Missy in the action thriller Black and Blue .

In 2019, along with comic book authors, publishers and other actresses from the broadcaster CW , Williams was part of a group of people who visited US military bases and their stationed people in Kuwait as part of the 80th birthday of the cartoon character Batman , organized by the United Service Organizations .
