Black Lightning is an American science fiction - Action - television series based on the comic book character Black Lightning by DC Comics based.

action

Headmaster Jefferson Pierce, who retired from superhero personality Black Lightning nine years ago after seeing the effects it had on his family, is forced to come back from his retirement when the rise of the local gang called The 100 under the leadership by Tobias Whale led to a surge in crime and corruption in his community of Freeland.

background

Black Lightning is based on the African-American cartoon character Black Lightning aka Jefferson Pierce, created in 1977 by Tony Isabella and Trevor Von Eeden .

In September 2016 it was announced that the broadcaster FOX had confirmed a pilot episode for a comic series about the character Black Lightning . In addition to the series Gotham and Lucifer , it would have been the third series on the station that is based on cartoon characters from the DC Comics . Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter have been appointed executive producers while the series is being produced by Warner Bros. Television . Berlanti is already Executive Producer for the series Arrow , The Flash , Supergirl and DC's Legends of Tomorrow , which are broadcast on The CW and are set in a common multiverse .

In February 2017 it was announced that Salim Akil would direct the pilot episode. In the same month the title role was filled by Cress Williams. However, in March 2017 it was announced that broadcaster CW would take over the series from Fox. In addition to the Berlanti series, the station also runs the iZombie series , making Black Lightning the sixth series based on DC Comics from the start of the series. At the end of March, Williams' first picture was published as Black Lightning. Black Lightning's costume was designed by Laura Jean Shannon .

In mid-May 2017, CW released the first trailer for the series about Jefferson Pierce. Although the series comes from the same producers as the series from the Arrowverse and is premiered on the same channel, the series will be separated from them for the time being. The series is to be broadcast as a midseason series, as CW President Mark Pedowitz said that you never want to run more than four superhero series on the station at the same time. Although it was initially stated that Black Lightning would not be part of this multiverse, and accordingly there would probably be no mutual crossover, producer Mara Brock Akil later announced that such a crossover would not be generally ruled out and Pedowiz added that there would be It is at the showrunner's discretion to allow such a crossover.

Filming for the first season took place in Atlanta. In mid-November 2017 it was announced that Black Lightning will have its premiere on January 16, 2018.
