Jill Scott (born April 4, 1972 in Philadelphia ) is an American singer of jazz , rhythm and blues and soul . She is a three-time Grammy winner. Musically, Jill Scott joins the artists Erykah Badu , India.Arie and Angie Stone , who are considered representatives of neo-soul .

Music career

Jill Scott was born and raised in Philadelphia, USA. She wrote her first poems in 8th grade. Then she begins to set them to music. She is discovered at an event by Roots drummer Ahmir Khalib Thompson . Together they wrote the song You Got Me , which became a world hit in 1999 and received a Grammy for best rap performance.

In 2000 her debut album Who is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1 , which has been honored with two platinum records and has earned you three Grammy nominations. In the same year she was awarded the Aretha Franklin Award for Entertainer of the Year. Jill Scott works with Common , Eric Benét and Will Smith . In 2001 the double CD Experience: Jill Scott was released , consisting of live recordings and new pieces.

Her next album Beautifully Human: Words and Sounds Vol. 2 was released in 2004, which also earned her a Grammy and a gold record . At the Grammy Awards 2005 she was honored again, this time for the best R&B solo vocal performance. In 2007, after a concert in Zurich, the press emphasized her virtuosity and vocal power.

Private life

Jill Scott has been engaged to drummer Lil Jon Roberts since June 2006. On April 20, 2009, the two parents of a son, Jett Hamilton Roberts.

Film career

In the BBC film adaptation of the books The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith , A detective for Botswana , she has been the leading actress named Mma Ramotswe since 2008 . In 2010 she starred in Also Love Makes Holidays 2 . In 2014 she can be seen in Love in the Luggage ( Baggage Claims ) at the side of Paula Patton , Derek Luke and Taye Diggs . In 2014 she played James Brown's wife DeeDee in Get On Up , a biopic. In 2018 she has a guest role in Black Lightning .
