Derek Luke (born April 24, 1974 in Linden , New Jersey ) is an American actor .

Life and accomplishments

Luke made his debut in 1999 on an episode of the television series King of Queens . In 2002 he played in the film drama Antwone Fisher , the main role of Antwone Fisher , a sailor in the US Navy, that of Dr. Jerome Davenport ( Denzel Washington ) is being treated. For this role he won the National Board of Review Award in 2002, the Independent Spirit Award in 2003 and the Black Reel Award twice . He was nominated for the Teen Choice Award , MTV Movie Award , Online Film Critics Society Award, and Chicago Film Critics Association Award in 2003 .

In the action film Biker Boyz , Luke played one of the lead roles alongside Laurence Fishburne . In the thriller Spartan by David Mamet , he played one of the larger roles. For the role in the film Catch a Fire , in which he starred alongside Tim Robbins , he was nominated for the Satellite Award in 2006 and for the Black Reel Award in 2007. From 2009 to 2010 he was seen in a leading role in the US television series Trauma . This was followed by major supporting roles in films such as Captain America - The First Avenger and In Search of a Friend for the End of the World .

In 2018 he was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.

Derek Luke has been married to actress Sophia Adella Hernandez since 1998 .
