Notorious BIG is a biographical film about the life of rapper Notorious BIG , or Biggie for short , from 2009. The film was written by Reggie Rock Bythewood and Cheo Hodari Coker. Directed by George Tillman, Jr. It was released in the US on January 16, 2009. Starring Woolard took over the role again in 2017 in All Eyez on Me , a film about Tupac Shakur.

The action begins on March 8, 1997 in Los Angeles at a party. Biggie smokes a cigar, his wife Faith Evans and Puff Daddy dance. Biggie's song Hypnotize can be heard in the background . Shortly thereafter, Biggie is in a car and stops at a red light. A black Chevrolet Impala pulls up beside the car and a shot is fired at Biggie. The scene pauses and a look back through various scenes through to Biggie's childhood begins.
Scenes from his youth, a quarrel with his mother, up to his first rap competition and the first drug deals with Lil 'Cease are shown . After serving a two-year prison sentence, he records a demonstration.
The film addresses the various episodes of Biggie's biography. His relationship with Faith Evans and the affair with Lil 'Kim is portrayed as well as the friendship and later enmity with Tupac Shakur . Dealing with Tupac's 1996 murder in Las Vegas is described as difficult for Biggie, who is also involved in conflicts between his wife, lover, and first wife Jane.
Biggie decides to promote his album in Los Angeles. There he receives death threats. He phoned Lil 'Kim at an awards show to clarify his relationship with her. When he leaves the show, he is shot at the intersection. The film ends with Biggie's funeral. His mother Voletta leaves in a black limousine. Biggie's song Hypnotize can be heard again in the background .

Originally Antoine Fuqua provided as a director, but was later replaced by George Tillman Jr.. The film is distributed by Fox Searchlight Pictures . The producers are Sean Combs , Voletta Wallace, and Biggie's former managers Wayne Barrow and Mark Pitts.
Casting
The casting for the role of Notorious BIG began in October 2007. Various actors, rappers and amateurs were tried out until the decision was made for the underground rapper Jamal Gravy Woolard. Angela Bassett was hired to play Biggie's mother, Voletta Wallace . Derek Luke plays Sean Combs, Antonique Smith Faith Evans and Anthony Mackie Tupac Shakur.
Biggie and Faith Evans' son, Christopher Jordan Wallace, plays the role of the young Notorious BIG in the film.
