XXL (magazine)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

XXL is a monthly American hip-hop magazine founded in 1997 by three former employees of The Source and published by Harris Publications . XXL has now overtaken the former market leader The Source in terms of circulation.

James Bernard, Robert Marriott and Reginald Dennis founded the magazine to create a counterpart to their previous employer, The Source magazine. They criticized Ray "Benzino" Scott's influence on the editorial section of the magazine and accused him of personal advantage. In 1999, Elliott Wilson, also a former employee of The Source, was hired as managing editor. In 2006, the magazine Scratch, published by the same publisher, was taken over by XXL and distributed as XXL presents Scratch Magazine until it was discontinued in 2007 . After Wilson was fired in 2008, Datwon Thomas, former editor-in-chief of the King , took over his post.

When evaluating music albums, the ratings are from S , worst, to XXL . Since 1997, six albums have received top ratings at the first attempt. 14 more were awarded XXL after a reassessment.
