biography

youth

Evans grew up in Newark , New Jersey and had a carefree childhood with her family. In her teens she discovered and developed an interest in music, especially jazz , a style that made her known as a singer in various nightclubs in the years that followed. After college, she decided to pursue a career as a professional singer. First she performed on a local level with the help of musician Kiyamma Griffin ; A little later, the up-and-coming music producer Sean "Puffy" Combs became aware of them, who in 1994 offered Faith a contract with his label Bad Boy Records .

Career

1990s

Faith Evans met young rapper Christopher Wallace alias The Notorious BIG as a background singer , who was just recording his debut album . He was so enthusiastic about the singer that he proposed marriage to her just a few days after they met. Evans, who was already the mother of a girl at the time, agreed, whereupon the couple stepped in front of the altar just ten days later.
The personal bond between the two was not without musical consequences - Evans first appeared on the remix of Biggie's 1995 hit single One More Chance . In the same year their self-titled debut album was released and reached platinum status within a few months . The single extractions Soon As I Get Home , You Used To Love Me and Is not Nobody could, however, especially in R & B - and hip-hop radio airplay prevail.
On September 7, 1996, the relationship between the two of them came into turmoil with the murder of Tupac Shakur . Not only burgeoning rumors about Wallace's alleged affairs with rappers Lil 'Kim and Charli Baltimore strained the marriage, but also blame given the allegations that he should have had a war with Shakur not only on a musical level, were loud. As a result, Wallace, who was a suspect alongside Sean Combs , was gunned down by strangers in his SUV only six months later, on March 9, 1997. Evans was subsequently asked by Combs to provide the chorus for the tribute single I'll Be Missing You . The collaboration stormed the charts worldwide and within a few weeks developed into one of the most successful recordings of 1997. In the end, the song not only won a Grammy , but it also helped Evans through a phase of deep depression .

Only a little later she met her second husband, the music producer Todd Russaw . He encouraged her to record her second album, Keep The Faith , which was released in 1998 and produced the hit singles Love Like This and All Night Long . At the same time, Evans had another chart hit with Whitney Houston and Kelly Price with the song Heartbreak Hotel , while the album received several platinum awards.

2000s

After a two-year hiatus, Faith Evans finally returned in 2001 with her third album, Faithfully . Not least thanks to two other hits with You Gets No Love and I Love You , the record, which was later rewarded with a Grammy nomination, was able to build on the success of its predecessors. Only a little later she was heard on Fatman Scoop's single Be Faithful , which sampled both the chorus and the instrumental of the 1998 song Love Like This and climbed to number 1 in the UK charts in the summer of 2003. After that, Evans and her husband made mostly negative headlines when they were arrested in early 2004 for drug possession and driving under the influence and sentenced to three years probation and a fine.

Erlebtes processed Faith Evans finally in her fourth studio album The First Lady , which in April 2005 after a first label change to Capitol Records was released. The CD was only able to score in the US album charts, but the singles Again and Mesmerized had worldwide success on radio airplay. With rapper Twista and "Hope", the soundtrack to the film Coach Carter , another single was released before a Christmas album entitled A Faithful Christmas was released in October of the same year .

2010 saw the release of Something About Faith Faith Evans' fifth R&B album. a. worked with Chucky Thompson and Jazze Pha .

Most recently, the album Incomparable was released at the end of 2014 .
