Anthony Mackie (born September 23, 1978 in New Orleans , Louisiana ) is an American actor .

Life

Mackie was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. He attended the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts and later the Juilliard School.

After a few theater roles (he played with Don Cheadle , among others ), Mackie got his first major role in 2003 in the independent film Brother to Brother , which deals with the problems of a homosexual African American, played by Mackie. This was followed by roles in films like 8 Mile , Spike Lee's She Hate Me , Clint Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby , The Face of Truth with Samuel L. Jackson and the rapper biography Notorious BIG , in which he plays rapper legend Tupac Shakur .

Mackie had his greatest success to date in Kathryn Bigelow's award-winning war drama Deadly Command - The Hurt Locker . Here Mackie plays a member of a bomb disposal team that is stationed in a crisis area in Iraq. For his portrayal he was u. a. Nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award , honored with the Image Award and Black Reel Award .

In the 2014 comic book adaptation The Return of the First Avenger , Mackie starred alongside Chris Evans in the role of Samuel Wilson / Falcon . He also took on the same role in the films Avengers: Age of Ultron , Ant-Man (both 2015), The First Avenger: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
