Io (in UK also: io: load on Earth ) is a post-apocalyptic science fiction - drama with fantasy -elements of Jonathan Helpert . The film was released on January 18, 2019 on the Netflix streaming service . The main characters are Margaret Qualley , Anthony Mackie and Danny Huston .

Right from the start of the film, numerous people as well as all birds and marine animals die from toxic air in a climate catastrophe. Survivors were brought to a rescue station in the orbit of Jupiter's moon Io with 100 spaceships .
The young scientist Sam Walden is one of the few who remained on earth. She wants one from her father, Dr. Harry Walden, further develop a devised process that is supposed to make the earth's atmosphere compatible with humans again. She herself lives in a high area where the air is non-toxic. Sam's friend Elon is in the rescue station and asks Sam to come to him on the last rescue spaceship.
Another survivor, Micah, arrives near your home with a helium balloon and asks about Dr. Harry Walden. Sam poses as Harry Walden's assistant and initially says that he is in the mountains to collect samples and that his return is not expected for a few days. She later admits that she is Harry's daughter and that he died a year earlier. Micah urges Sam to travel with him to the final rescue spacecraft and leave Earth.
Elon emails Sam that he is joining a 10-year expedition to a very Earth-like planet. This means that a meeting between the two is excluded in the long term. A short time later, Sam and Micah get closer.
You want to leave the earth with the last rescue spaceship. Since the tanks of Micah's balloon do not contain enough helium to get to the launch site of the spaceship, the two have to get helium out of town. Meanwhile, Sam drives alone to a museum, but Micah follows her. She takes off the mask and takes a few breaths before the scene ends.
The next (and last) scene shows Sam on a beach with a girl. Apparently Sam had a child from Micah and found a way to make the earth habitable again.

The film was shot in 2016 and should be released in 2017. Reasons for the delayed publication were not given.
