Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is an American Vampire - Horror from the year 2012 . The director took Timur Bekmambetov . The film is based on the novel of the same name by Seth Grahame-Smith . The film premiered in New York City on June 18 ; the film opened in Germany on October 3, 2012.

In 1818 Abraham Lincoln lived with his parents Nancy and Thomas on Jack Barts' plantation . When Lincoln sees his African-American friend William Johnson being beaten by an overseer, he intervenes. This leads to his father being fired by Barts. The following night, Lincoln watches as his mother is attacked and bitten by Barts. She dies shortly afterwards as a result of an unknown illness.
Nine years later, Lincoln wants revenge for his mother's death and shoots Barts. In reality, however, he is a vampire and overwhelms Lincoln. Before Barts can bite Lincoln, Henry Sturgess rescues him. Sturgess explains everything about vampires to Lincoln and trains him to fight the undead. He also explains the ancestry of the American vampires from Adam, a plantation owner in New Orleans , and his sister Vadoma.
On instructions from Sturgess, Lincoln moves to Springfield , where he lives with the shop owner Joshua Fry Speed and works in his shop. Since Lincoln wants to become a lawyer, he devotes himself to the study of law books and goes on the night hunt against vampires whose names Sturgess sends him as messages. Despite Sturgess warning him not to enter into closer relationships, Lincoln falls in love with Mary Todd , whom he later marries.
One day, Lincoln finally receives a tip from Sturgess to find and destroy Barts. Before he dies, he reveals that Sturgess is also a vampire. When confronted, Sturgess relates how he and his wife were once bitten by Adam. His wife died and he became a vampire himself. But since vampires cannot kill each other and he cannot take revenge himself, he has been training human vampire hunters ever since. After this opening, Lincoln turns away from Sturgess.
Adam, made aware of Lincoln by the death of Barts, traps him and kidnaps Johnson. Lincoln works with Speed to save Johnson, and all three escape to Ohio .
Lincoln, now a lawyer, is now working harder on his political career and the fight against slavery . This turned out to be a source of food for the vampires. After his election as President of the United States , Lincoln and his wife move into the White House , and Johnson and Speed become Lincoln's advisors. Lincoln's son William is bitten by Vadoma during this time and dies.
Shortly thereafter, several declare Southern the secession from the United States and founded the Confederacy . Its president Jefferson Davis convinces Adam to fight against the north in his ranks. After heavy losses in the Battle of Gettysburg against the immortal opponents, Lincoln had silver weapons made , which he himself wanted to bring to his troops by train. Speed secretly meets with Adam and shares Lincoln's plan with him. Adam then attacks the train with Vadoma and his vampires. During the attack, Adam discovers that the train has only loaded stones and that Speed has betrayed him. He then kills Speed, but is himself destroyed in the attack.
The bayonets and bullets made of silver were meanwhile brought by Mary with the help of the Underground Railroad to Gettysburg to the Northern States troops. When Vadoma sneaks into the camp, she is killed by Mary wearing her son's silver necklace. In the ensuing battle, Lincoln's soldiers beat the vampire army with the new silver weapons.
Two years later, Lincoln learns that all the remaining vampires have left the country. Shortly afterwards he goes to the theater with his wife Mary.
Finally, in the present, Sturgess approaches a man in a bar as he once did with Lincoln.

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer was announced by Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov in March 2010 . The author, Seth Grahame-Smith , was then commissioned to write the script. 20th Century Fox received the film rights in October of that year after fierce competition with other studios. In January 2011, Benjamin Walker was announced as the leading actor, beating Adrien Brody , Josh Lucas , James D'Arcy , and Oliver Jackson-Cohen . The following month, more actors were cast, so that on March 14, 2011 filming in Louisiana could begin. The cost is estimated at $ 69 million. The film was shot in 3D . Filming ended on June 30, 2011.

For the most part, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer was received mediocre by critics. In the Internet Movie Database , the film received a total of 6.0 out of 10 stars from 120,000 people who voted. In rotten tomatoes an average rating of 35 percent was achieved on a basis of 169 reviews.
“In addition to the amusing and absurd reappraisal of history, on the verge of cluttering, this fast-paced genre hybrid offers lavish and exciting action sequences that culminate in an argument in the midst of a panic horse herd. A train robbery including a burning bridge is also completely over-the-top. The elegant visual look revels in sepia tones and rich colors, and the set design and costumes leave nothing to be desired. In addition, the breathless action trip awaits with a sympathetic protagonist, who is embodied by Walker in a straightforward manner and without irony. Unless you insist on authenticity, this entertaining biopic of the unrealistic kind is hellishly entertaining in its own charmingly absurd way. "
