Black Reel Award

The Black Reel Award is a film award that has been presented to people of African American origin in Washington, DC since 2000 .

The award was launched by the Foundation for the Advancement of African-Americans in Film under the leadership of Tim Gordon and Sabrina McNeal. Achievements in front of and behind the camera in feature films, television productions and independent films are recognized . Prizes are awarded in different categories.

In 2008 the film was awarded to Cadillac Records . In the “Best Actor” category, Dev Patel , who was born in Nairobi to an Indian family, was honored for his role in the film Slumdog Millionaire and Queen Latifah for “Best Actress” in the film The Beekeeper . In 2009 the award ceremony did not take place.
