Angela Bassett (born August 16, 1958 in New York City , New York ) is an American actress .

Life

As a child, she moved from New York to Saint Petersburg , Florida . She and her sister D'nette were raised by their foster mother Betty. She graduated from Yale University and received her Bachelor of Arts in African-American History in 1980. In 1983, she graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in the category of drama.

At Yale, Angela Bassett also met her husband Courtney B. Vance , who completed his acting training there in 1986. She now lives with him in California and has had twin children with him since 2006.

From 2004 to 2005 Angela Bassett played the supporting role Hayden Chase in the fourth season of the US television series Alias ​​- The Agent .

From 2008 to 2009 she played the role of head of the emergency department Dr. Catherine Banfield in Emergency Room - The Emergency Room .

She has been part of the American Horror Story anthology series since 2013 .

For the musical film Black Nativity , which was released in Germany in June 2014 , she received the NAACP Image Award for best leading actress.
