action

The action takes place in Julia, a city in the southern United States. The African Americans living in the city are led by Dr. Cited Ron Palmer, who runs a clinic. In Julia lives John Malcolm, whose brother Peter, a black civil rights activist, was murdered thirty years earlier. Malcolm still can't handle the loss of his brother. His wife Sarah is fighting against plans to expand Dr. Palmer-run clinic. Meanwhile, former town sheriff Jack Herrod, who once sabotaged the investigation, finds that he will soon die. His son Carl has an affair with the wife of Dr. Palmer.
