Fort Mill is a town in York County in the US state of South Carolina . Fort Mill is located between Charlotte , North Carolina , to the north and Rock Hill to the south. A total of 36,119 inhabitants lived in the township in 2010, 10,811 of them in Fort Mill itself.

history

The first European settlers came to the area of ​​today's town in the 1750s and 1760s. The Town Fort Mill was founded in 1873. It got its name because of two locations between which it was built. To the north was a fort that was supposed to protect the area from the Catawba native to the area . To the south was a mill called Webb's Mill.

economy

With the founding of the Fort Mill Manufacturing Company in 1887, the town mainly produced textiles. Today, Continental AG has its headquarters for tire products in North and South America in Fort Mill. Domtar is based there for the USA. In the township are u. a. Black & Decker , Shutterfly , Daimler Trucks North America and AECOM locations .
