history

The company was originally founded in the UK in 1848. After the outbreak of World War I, the company's headquarters were relocated to Montreal. In 1930 the company went public in Toronto. The company grew strongly between 1950 and 1960. Between 1990 and 2000 the company expanded into the US market.
