AECOM (English pronunciation: /eɪ.iːˈkɒm, US dict: ā · ē · kŏm) is a provider of technical services and support services for corporate management. The name AECOM is an acronym for the fields A rchitecture, e ngineering, C onsulting, O pera tion and M aintenance.
history
AECOM was formed in 1990 through the merger of several former Ashland Oil & Refinering subsidiaries in Lexington, Kentucky. AECOM has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange since May 2007 . In October 2010 AECOM merged with the international consultancy for workplace strategy development DEGW and has been present on the German market as AECOM Deutschland GmbH since October 2012. In 2014, URS Corporation was acquired for $ 6 billion. AECOM and URS together have around 100,000 employees, around 350 of them in Germany. The construction company Tishman Construction has been part of AECOM since 2010 .
In 2014, AECOM ranked 332nd in the Fortune 500 list of America's largest companies.

Through various mergers and acquisitions of engineering, design, construction, consulting, planning and environmental companies as well as technological developments, AECOM grew in the fields of chemistry, petrochemistry, road and building construction, architecture, design, engineering and consulting.
The company reports in the segments Professional Technical Services , which generated around 90% of sales in 2013, and Management Support Services , which generated around 10% of sales.
The focus of business activity is on the Americas, Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions. Around 5% of the employees work in around 80 branches in Europe. In Germany, AECOM, with around 350 employees, specializes in workplace-related services such as the design of work spaces and relocations.
Customers
According to the 2013 annual report, approximately 18% of sales were generated on behalf of US government agencies, including the Department of Defense , Department of Energy , Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security . Overall, around 60% of sales are generated for public clients, including local and state US and foreign authorities, and around 40% for private clients, including international corporations. According to the annual report, a significant part of the contracts are subject to confidentiality agreements with the client.

The company's headquarters are in Los Angeles . AECOM Deutschland GmbH is based in Neu-Isenburg. After the takeover of URS, there are locations in Berlin, Chemnitz, Cottbus, Essen, Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg, Kaiserslautern, Munich and Nuremberg.
