York County is a county in the state of South Carolina in the United States . The county seat is York .

The county is located in northern South Carolina, bordering North Carolina and has an area of ​​1802 square kilometers, of which 34 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Cleveland County, North Carolina, Gaston County, North Carolina, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, Lancaster County , Chester County , Union County, and Cherokee County .

According to the 2000 census , York County had 164,614 people in 61,051 households and 44,933 families. The population density was 93 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 77.25 percent white, 19.16 percent African American, 0.85 percent Native American, 0.89 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.93 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.91 percent were descended from two or more races.
