Allendale County is a county in the state of South Carolina in the United States . The county seat is Allendale .

The county is located in southwest South Carolina, bordering Georgia and has an area of ​​1,069 square kilometers, of which 11 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Bamberg County , Colleton County , Hampton County , Screven County, Georgia, Burke County (Georgia), and Barnwell County .

history

Allendale County was formed on February 6, 1919 from parts of Barnwell County and Hampton County. It was named after Paul H. Allen (1800–?), Who was the first postmaster in Allendale from 1849.

As of the 2000 census , Allendale County had 11,211 people in 3,915 households and 2,615 families. The population density was 11 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 71.00 percent white, 27.37 percent African American, 0.12 percent Native American, 0.00 percent Asian, 0.06 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.85 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.51 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.61 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
